Chalacan Flores Killed in Riverside Bus-Versus-Pedestrian Crash

Chalacan Flores

A pedestrian was killed on Sunday night along the Interstate 60 Pomona Freeway in Riverside, California, after she was crushed by a passing bus. The deceased woman was later identified as Chalacan Flores, a 25-year-old resident of Redlands.

According to the accident reports supplied by the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Sunday, April 5. The CHP reported that the fatal collision took place at about 10 pm, in the area of Market Street, and involved a female pedestrian and a vehicle containing many passengers.

Responding officers gathered that the high-occupancy bus was traveling along the west traffic lanes on the state route when it encountered the accident.

Following the collision, several passengers alighted the crashed vehicle, clustering around the westbound Pomona freeway until law enforcement arrived. None of the bus’s occupants was injured in the wreck.

Two other vehicles, a truck and a sedan, whose occupants witnessed the incident, also pulled over on the right shoulder of I-60. Paramedics pronounced the crash victim dead on the scene.

Police did not clarify in the reports whether drugs or alcohol were involved. However, the incident is actively being investigated by officers of the CHP, to ascertain the cause and liability of the fatal collision.

Chalacan Flores follows a long list of pedestrians that have lost their lives in traffic-related accidents in the state of California this year alone.

Such tragic occurrences can be traced to a variety of factors, including DUI, distracted driving, malfunctioning vehicles, or jaywalking along traffic routes. All these factors would be considered during the investigation of Flores’s death, and the outcome recorded in the accident reports.
