Motorcyclist, Rui Sun, Dies in Castro Valley Crash

Authorities are investigating the death of a man, who met his end after his motorcycle crashed on a major freeway in Castro Valley, California. The incident took place at night on Thursday, May 22, as stated in the accident reports obtained from the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers responded to a solo crash on Carolyn Street/164th Avenue exit off westbound Interstate 580 just after 8 p.m. Responding officers found a wrecked motorcycle lying on the roadway, with its rider unconscious a few feet away.

Investigations conducted at the scene revealed the victim was riding along the freeway approaching the ramp near I-580. The rider failed to negotiate a sharp curve at the end of the exit ramp, causing him to drive off the road, according to a CHP spokesperson, Officer Gabe Walters.

The rider suffered fatal injuries in the wreck, and first responders pronounced him dead upon their arrival. Authorities later identified the fatal victim as Rui Sun, a 21-year-old resident of Sacramento.

Based on initial investigations, officers believe Sun was traveling at a high rate of speed at the bottom of the ramp, which may have led to his death. Officers did not immediately establish whether drugs and alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal collision. No one else sustained injuries in the solo-motorcycle crash, the accident reports affirmed.

Commuters should endeavour to pay attention to their surroundings when plying roadways and to drive within a safe speed limit.
