A woman was killed Monday afternoon in a motorcycle crash near Stanwood, according to local authorities.
Kathy Askew, 61, of Snohomish, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to car accident reports from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck and no additional injuries were reported.
Deputies said Askew was riding her motorcycle with friends in the 23300 block of Pioneer Highway at about 4:20 p.m. Monday when she lost control of her vehicle. The motorcycle went off the roadway and crashed, according to car accident reports.
Askew died from her injuries before she could be transported from the scene for emergency medical treatment, according to the press release.
“(Collision Investigation Unit) detectives are still working to determine the cause of the crash,” deputies wrote in the press release. “(Askew) had been out riding with a group of friends all afternoon and it is unknown what led to the crash.”
While the cause of the incident remains unclear, “deputies do not believe speed or alcohol were contributing factors,” officials wrote in a press release.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office described the cause of death as “blunt-force injuries” and listed the manner of death as an “accident.”
Friends and family members posted tributes to Askew on Facebook after news of her death was made public.
“She was a cool aunt,” wrote one friend, who described Askew as the “glue” that held the family together. “She loved babies and fine wine. … We will miss her laugh and her presence so very much.”
