Fatal Victim of North Bakersfield House Fire Identified as Judy Ann Gragg

Authorities have identified the elderly woman who was discovered dead in a burning building, in north Bakersfield, California. Accident reports obtained from the Kern County Coroner’s Office, on Thursday, April 16, disclosed the fatal victim’s name as 72-year-old Judy Ann Gragg.

The fatal fire outbreak took place on Monday, April 13, at the 20 block of Tee Lane. Kern County Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the location following reports of a mobile home fire in Oildale at about 8:22 pm. The reports indicated that at least one person was still trapped inside.

The firefighters were able to contain the fire, which was ravaging a mobile home, near Eagle Lane, after which they searched the building, and found Gragg’s charred remains.

The cause of the fire has not been established and remains under investigation by the fire department’s arson unit.

Most house fires are often traced to electrical origins. However, other factors like cooking accidents, smoking indoors, accidental explosions, improper fuel mixtures, or creating sparks near combustible items can cause fire accidents.

All of these factors would be considered during the investigations, and the outcome would be indicated in the accident reports.

Residents are urged to keep fuels and other combustible items a reasonable distance away from open flames and heaters to prevent the occurrence of such incidents. Also, having a functioning smoke alarm, and a rational fire escape plan can increase the chances of surviving a potential outbreak.
