A bicycle rider was fatally struck and killed after a delivery truck driver jumped a red light at a road intersection in Van Nuys, California. The tragic crash which took place at night on Sunday, April 19, may require the expertise of a bicycle accident attorney.
Officers confirmed that at about 7:45 pm, officers were alerted of a traffic crash in the area of Sherman Way and Kester Avenue, which involved a bicycle and a commercial truck.
The commercial truck was reportedly making delivery rounds in the area when it reached an intersection, with the stop signal on the traffic light up.
For unknown reasons, the truck driver ran the traffic light and immediately struck a bicyclist crossing the intersection at the time, and caused major damages to the bike.
The rider of the bicycle sustained fatal injuries in the tragic crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The Van Nuys authorities identified the fatal victim as Daniel Newberg, a 29 year old local.
The commercial delivery truck driver, whose name was withheld, was not harmed in the crash. The reports did not ascertain whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal collision.
Although the liability remains evident on the truck driver’s part since he broke a traffic regulation by running a red light, the police are still investigating the traffic mishap. Also, the reports did not state whether an arrest was made.
Victims and families of fatal victims in traffic wrecks involving a bicycle are encouraged to contact a bicycle accident attorney to review the case and ensure they are adequately represented.
