Teenager, Alex Ounmano, Dies in Fresno County Crash

One person is dead, and another injured, following a traffic collision which took place on Highway 168, near the Auberry area of Fresno County, California. According to police reports, the car accident involving two high school students was recorded on Wednesday afternoon, April 22.

The incident took place at about 2:25 pm on State Route 168, east of Beal Fire Road. Preliminary investigations showed that the mishap began when three vehicles were engaging in a street race, downhill on the highway, at alleged speeds 85 mph to 100 mph.

One of the vehicles, a 1996 Acura Integra, driven by a 17-year-old boy suddenly skidded off the highway and crashed violently into a mountainside. The vehicle sustained severe damages as a result, with its two occupants critically injured.

When emergency responders arrived, they pronounced the teenage motorist dead at the scene, while his sole passenger, a teenage girl, suffered a head injury. The survivor was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno, where she remains in critical condition.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office named the fatal victim as Alex Ounmano. He was a student of Clovis High School. The identity of the injured female, as well as that of the other racers, was not disclosed in the reports. No additional information was released.

Investigations into the fatal crash that killed Ounmano are still in the works.

Based on recent reports, car accidents involving street racers on highways have become prevalent due to freer routes resulting from the imposed lockdowns in major cities. Sadly, the victims are mostly teenagers and young adults.

Youngsters are advised to remain compliant with state directives and to adhere to traffic regulations at all times.
