The man who was killed last weekend in a vehicle-pedestrian crash in Compton, California, has been identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. Updated accident reports released on Wednesday, April 29, named the deceased as Stewart Gonzalez, a 57-year-old man from Pomona.

The incident took place at night on Saturday, April 25. According to the authorities, officers were deployed to a location on Long Beach (710) Freeway shortly after 8:35 pm, following reports of a pedestrian trapped underneath a crashed vehicle, and unresponsive.

Detectives gathered that the pedestrian was on the right shoulder of the southbound 710 Freeway, near Alondra Boulevard, when a Honda ran him over, leaving him pinned beneath it.

Stewart Gonzalez suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was confirmed by the California Highway Patrol, as well as the county coroner’s office.

Meanwhile, the operator of the Honda waited at the scene until the police arrived. He cooperated with the responding officers during the interrogations. Authorities did not reveal the driver’s name to the public.

Drugs and alcohol did not appear to have been responsible for the fatal collision. The accident reports did not ascertain whether or not the driver was charged with any traffic offense.

The incident remains under investigation. The CHP asked anyone with helpful information that could facilitate the procedure to get in touch with the East Los Angeles Area Office of the state’s highway patrol.
