Adam Slater Detained After Crashing Vehicle in Indian Wells

In new accident reports supplied by the Riverside authorities, officials confirmed the arrest of a man who stabbed a woman during a domestic violence confrontation. Police said the culprit crashed his vehicle while fleeing the scene. A one-year-old girl was also involved in the incident, which took place on Wednesday, May 6, in Indian Wells, California.

Authorities believe the incident was a case of domestic violence, which began shortly before 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The suspect, Adam Slater, 49, of Palm West, reportedly stabbed a woman, and upon the arrival of law enforcement agents, they discovered that he had fled the scene in a white vehicle, carrying a toddler.

About 30 minutes later, they tracked the man to a location on Highway 74, where officials said the vehicle crashed and overturned. Bystanders swung into action, rescuing the toddler from the wrecked car after it came to rest several feet off the highway.

Witness accounts confirmed that Slater removed himself from the wreck and immediately stabbed the bystander who successfully got the toddler out. He then reclaimed his one-year-old daughter forcefully and threw her over a cliff into a ravine before fleeing into the canyons.

Officers eventually caught up with the suspect and took him into custody following the treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. When the rescue team extricated the tot from the ravine, she was already dead. The two people stabbed sought medical aid, and are expected to survive.

Relatives identified the stabbed woman as Ashley Grome, who shares the deceased girl, Madalyn Payton Slater, with the culprit.

Slater remains held at John J. Benoit Detention Center in connection with the murder, police confirmed in the accident reports.
