A man arrested this week in incorporated Meiners Oaks, California, for causing injuries to another motorist in a suspected DUI crash would need the services of a drunk driving attorney. The incident leading to his arrest occurred on Wednesday, May 20.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the suspect ran a stop sign and crashed into a second vehicle in La Luna Avenue and El Roblar Drive. One casualty resulted from the 6:18 p.m. collision.

Investigators gathered that the driver approached La Luna Avenue’s intersection with El Robber Drive and failed to stop for the red light. Upon entering the intersection, the motorist, identified as Nathan Whitteker, 34, of Ojai, collided with an oncoming vehicle, which had the right of way at the time. Both cars suffered damages.

The Ojai resident, operating the struck car, remained trapped in her dented vehicle until Ventura County Fire Department personnel arrived. Firefighters extricated the female motorist from her car, and medics transported her to Ventura Medical Center for treatment of severe injuries.

Meanwhile, Whitteker fled the scene of the accident without stopping to assess the damages caused. Officers said the hit-and-run driver later returned to the location on foot and turned himself in to the police.

Deputies determined he was under the influence of alcohol at the time. They took him into custody, at the Ventura County Jail, with a bail capped at $50,000. Whitteker faces charges of felony DUI-alcohol, and hit-and-run.

He has a court appearance slated this Friday at the Ventura County Superior Court and would require representation by an experienced drunk driving attorney.
