Ashley Sanchez

Authorities on Monday, May 25, identified the victim of the train crash in Central Fresno, California, as 19-year-old Ashley Sanchez. Accident reports state that the collision occurred at about 11:30 PM on Friday, May 22.

Police officers responded to distress calls on the day of the crash and rushed to the scene. On arrival, they found the deceased’s body and pronounced her dead.

From preliminary investigations carried out, the police believe that the incident was accidental. Officers interviewed the train’s conductor, who said that there wasn’t enough time to stop before striking the victim. Investigations remain ongoing, with the police trying to determine why Ashley Sanchez was walking very close to the tracks.

Following the accident, the authorities closed the railway crossing at Fruit and Ashlan but reopened it later. There is no further investigation about the crash available at this time.

Pedestrians must be careful whenever they want to cross railway crossings. They must avoid walking too close to the train tracks and stay at a safe distance away from oncoming trains.

Many reported train crashes occur as a result of pedestrians being careless while walking around railway stations and crossings. Other causes include mechanical faults, drivers’ negligence, and obstructions on the tracks.

These crashes, when they occur, are sometimes fatal and can also lead to critical injuries. Hence train drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and workers must be vigilant and safety conscious at all times. Victims of train collisions should file accident reports and report the wrecks to authorities for proper handling and investigation.
