Authorities have released the identity of a truck driver who died in a Highway crash in Anderson, California, after getting run over by another truck seconds after exiting his vehicle. The Shasta County Coroner’s Office identified the fatal victim on Wednesday, May 27, as Robert Edward Sturghill, a 55-year-old man from Fresno. The incident requires the intervention of auto accident attorneys.
The California Highway Patrol dispatched officers to the scene of a collision shortly after 4:30 a.m. The response was in line with a call reporting two distinct crashes, both involving an 18-wheeler on Interstate 5, a few miles from Deschutes Road offramp. Only one casualty resulted from the traffic incident.
Initial reports showed the victim was driving a trailer along I-5 when for unknown reasons, he veered sideways and hit a guardrail. The motorist then exited his vehicle following the first crash and suddenly fell to the ground. Another truck approaching from behind immediately ran him over.
First responders pronounced the motorist deceased at the scene. Detectives did not immediately establish what caused the initial collision with the guardrail, or what led the trailer driver to fall. Investigators are looking into the possibility of an underlying health condition, which may have caused the fall.
The county coroner’s office ordered an autopsy on the victim’s body to determine his cause of death, and possibly detect underlying conditions. The incident remains under investigation by the CHP. Anyone involved in traffic collisions can seek counsel from experienced auto accident attorneys.
