The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who died in San Jose, California after a vehicle struck him while crossing the road. In an updated accident report released on Tuesday, June 16, the coroner said Nicholas Hall, a 32-year-old transient died from injuries suffered in the accident.
The San Jose Police Department recorded the incident early on Monday morning, June 15. Officers said they found the victim critically injured on the roadway just after 2 a.m. when they arrived at the scene. The crash, which detectives are investigating as a case of hit-and-run, occurred near the intersection of McLaughlin Avenue and Algiers Street.
Investigators determined that Hall was attempting to walk across the road on McLaughlin Avenue near Algiers. At the same time, the vehicle was southbound on the roadway, traveling in the pedestrian’s direction in the #1 lane. The unidentified automobile encountered the pedestrian and ran him over. San Jose police authorities said the victim was outside a crosswalk when the accident happened.
First responders transported Hall to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, the accident reports confirmed.
Police said the motorist fled the scene after the crash, without stopping to assist the struck pedestrian or call in the accident. The motorist is still at large, and the San Jose Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating the hit-and-run driver. They urged anyone with information that may lead to the suspect’s arrest to contact the department’s Traffic Investigation Unit.
