A man and a woman survived a near-fatal solo crash in the Valley Springs area of California. On Wednesday, June 24th, the California Highway Patrol revealed the victims’ names as Brandon D. Maggard, 34, of Rio Linda, north of Sacramento, and Katie J. Thompson, 32, of Valley Springs.

The car accident report disclosed that the crash took place on Tuesday, June 23rd, at approximately 9:50 p.m. on Highway 26 east of Quail Oaks Road. Officer E.M. Parsons said Maggard was driving a 1990 Chevrolet Corvette on the westbound lane when he came to a curve on the roadway. He allowed the car to enter the eastbound lane and lost control of it.

The Corvette then entered back into the westbound lane, went off the north side of the road onto the shoulder, and overturned. The collision’s impact ejected the driver and Thompson, his passenger, and the car rested on its roof in a grass field. Two air helicopters arrived at the scene and conveyed the victims to different hospitals.

They flew Maggard to Kaiser South Sacramento and Thompson to Modesto Memorial Medical Center. Parsons said that alcohol appeared to have contributed to the collision, and they arrested the driver on suspicion of felony driving under the influence.

Under California law, a DUI is a severe offense and carries harsh punishments. Offenders are liable to face time in jail, pay a fine, and have their driver’s license revoked.
