Larry Clay Dies in Long Beach Auto-Pedestrian Accident

On Thursday, July 2nd, the Long Beach Police Department asked for the help of the public in finding the hit-and-run driver that killed a pedestrian in Long Beach, California. City resident, Larry Clay, 67, died on Wednesday, July 1st.

Facts from the accident report showed that a 2011 GMC Yukon driven by an unidentified female driver struck the victim around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Willow Street and Delta Avenue. The vehicle was eastbound in the number two lane on Willow when it hit Clay, who was crossing the roadway in an unmarked crosswalk.

The victim succumbed to his wounds at the scene, and the hit-and-run driver was nowhere in sight when the first responders arrived. The police said that they found the GMC unoccupied at about 9:30 p.m. The driver remains at large, and anyone with information on the woman’s identity should contact the LBPD or Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous.

A hit-and-run accident under California’s laws is an offense punishable with time in prison if there is an injury or a death. The court will only convict a person of the crime if he or she is found guilty of driving a vehicle, hitting a person with the car, and leaving the crash scene without rendering help.

The person must also call emergency responders and leave behind his or her contact or insurance information. Additionally, provide first aid for the injured, and remain until the police conclude their preliminary investigation.
