21-Year-Old Killed in Fiery Crash on I-5

All northbound lanes were closed Saturday night in Pacific Beach on northbound Interstate 5 following a fiery crash that left one man dead, and a woman hospitalized with major injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 21-year-old Preet Sheth of San Diego, was driving a midsize sedan south in the northbound freeway lanes when he stopped the car near the Grand/Garnet Avenue exit, turning his headlights off. His vehicle was then struck head-on by an oncoming car. The incident happened at 10:15 p.m.

Authorities said that by the time the CHP arrived on the scene, Sheth’s car had become engulfed in flames with him still inside. His body was found inside the car once flames had been extinguished. The Medical Examiner’s Office said that he died from multiple blunt force and thermal injuries.
