A 29-year-old male driver lost his life on Sunday morning, July 5th, in a solo car crash in Vallejo, California. According to the California Highway Patrol, Jose Valdez, a city resident, crashed his car off westbound Interstate Highway 80.
The car accident report disclosed that at about 2:29 a.m., officers responded to a call about the crash at the Benicia Road off-ramp. When they arrived at the scene, they found a 2015 Cadillac CTS down an embankment. A preliminary investigation uncovered that Valdez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and the impact ejected him from the wrecked vehicle.
The man suffered fatal wounds that claimed his life at the scene, and the Solano County Coroner’s Office identified him. The CHP believes that impairment might be a factor in the accident. The investigation is ongoing, and there’s no additional information at this time.
A seatbelt plays a crucial role in keeping a car occupant inside when a crash occurs, and it also goes a long way in limiting the severity of the injury sustained. Under California law, all drivers and passengers of a motor vehicle must wear a seatbelt when in transit.
Besides keeping car occupants safe, it prevents them from getting tickets, as lack of seatbelt use is a traffic offense. Drivers and passengers from 16 years and above are eligible to get tickets. The law also provides that a car must have enough seatbelts for all its occupants, and it must work properly and be in good condition.
