Driver Killed in San Bernardino Police Chase Identified as Michael Levario


One of the car accident report updates from San Bernardino, California, revealed the identity of the man killed in a police chase crash. On Monday, July 6th, the San Bernardino Police Spokesman Sgt. John Echevarria reported that they identified Michael Mendoza Levario, 20, as the driver of the vehicle involved.

The spokesman said that the victim and two teenage boys aged 15 and 13 were suspects of an armed robbery in the city, leading to the chase on Friday, July 3rd. The crash report showed that Levario drove a Dodge Charger as he fled from the scene of the theft at Del Taco on the 700-block of West 2nd Street around 9:45 p.m.

The victim sped down 5th Street towards Mount Vernon Avenue but failed to make a turn at Flores Street accurately. The Dodge went off the roadway, over a guardrail, became airborne, and went about 175 feet into a concrete wall.

Echevarria said that Levario and the 15-year-old passenger died from their injuries at the scene while the 13-year-old survived with severe wounds. As of Monday, the teen was still in the hospital. The victim and the minors were the only occupants of the wrecked car, and no other vehicle was involved.

The SBPD have not discovered if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident, and it remains under investigation. The department requested anyone with relevant information to contact Detective Dan Acosta or Sergeant Jeff Harvey on the station’s listed line.
