DUI Driver, Shariff Abouzeid, Survives Chico Accident with Injuries

49-year-old Shariff Abouzeid would need a drunk driving attorney’s service following his arrest for driving under the influence and crashing his car in Chico, California. In the accident report, the Chico Police Department said that the crash happened on Wednesday, July 8th, on Cohasset Road near Boeing Avenue.

The investigators said that at about 8 p.m., the suspect was northbound on Cohasset when he left the roadway, overcorrected, and veered off the road again. The car flipped and rested on its roof, and when first responders arrived at the scene, they found Abouzeid trapped inside.

They successfully extricated the man from the vehicle, and the paramedics transported him to a local hospital to treat major injuries. The CPD said that they determined that Abouzeid was driving under the influence and placed him under arrest at the hospital. They released him with a citation to allow medical personnel to admit him for treatment.

The accident led to the redirection of traffic from Boeing Avenue and Twin Oaks Drive. The road closure lasted for three hours while the police gathered evidence and cleared the scene.

Under the California Vehicle Code, a person drives under the influence when he or she consumes an intoxicating substance like alcohol or drugs. It is a criminal offense, and prosecutors try it as a misdemeanor or felony. To secure a conviction, they must prove that the offender was intoxicated, drove a vehicle in that state, and committed an illegal or failed to commit a legal act.
