Calvin Everhart Killed in Big-Rig Accident on Highway 395

A man lost his life in an incident that involved a big rig. The two-vehicle accident occurred in Ridgecrest on Thursday, July 23. The deceased was identified by the authorities as Calvin Everhart, 53, of San Fernando as per the early accident reports.

According to the details shared by the California Highway Patrol, Everhart was riding a truck on Highway 395 when he ran into the accident. Just south of the China Lake Boulevard, Everhart’s truck crashed into a big-rig. This was a head-on collision, so it must be assumed that the big rig was traveling northbound at the time.

It isn’t clear at this point whether Calvin Everhart or the big rig driver lost control of the vehicle. Following the collision, Everhart sustained critical injuries. Once the first responders and law enforcement personnel arrived on the scene of the crash, attempts to revive Everhart failed. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash. The driver of the big rig also sustained major injuries in the collision. He was rushed to the Kern Hospital.

California Highway Patrol and other local agencies continue to investigate the incident. The focus of the investigations, at this point, is to determine how the accident occurred. It is only after the cause of the accident is determined that the authorities may decide who was liable for the crash. If the big rig driver is found liable, he may face multiple penalties as the crash involves a fatality. Subsequent accident reports may reveal which way the investigation goes.
