A man lost his life in a single-vehicle crash that occurred in the Riverside County over the weekend. Authorities identified the deceased as Domingo Clemente Zacarias, 52, of Thermal. The accident happened on Saturday, July 25 as per the initial accident reports.
According to the details shared by the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred close to the shoreline of the Salton Sea. It involved only the vehicle that Zacarias was driving so that no other individuals or vehicles were involved.
Zacarias ran into an accident as he was driving through the intersection of the 81st Avenue and Harrison Street, about seven miles from Mecca. It isn’t clear exactly how the accident occurred. Intersection accidents typically involve more than one vehicle but since this was a single-vehicle crash, it is probable that speeding or another reason may have been the leading factor. It appears that Zacarias lost control of the vehicle, either while driving straight through the intersection or when negotiating a curve.
The accident resulted in critical injuries to Domingo Clemente Zacarias. It was reported to the authorities at around 3:00 p.m. Once the first responders and law enforcement personnel arrived on the scene of the crash, attempts were made to revive Zacarias. However, he couldn’t recover and succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 3:50 p.m. on the scene of the crash by the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau.
California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident. The focus of the investigations, at this point, is to determine exactly how the accident took place. Subsequent accident reports may reveal more details about the incident.
