Christopher Jones Killed in Oakland Motorcycle Crash

A 50-year-old motorcyclist lost his life after his motorcycle collided with a car on Highway 24 in Oakland, California. Christopher Jones, 50, passed away on Wednesday night, July 29th, from injuries sustained in the collision.

The California Highway Patrol said that the crash happened at about 11:17 p.m. near Caldecott Tunnel in the eastbound lanes of the highway. Jones was riding a Yamaha bike when he reportedly pulled into the traffic, and a Honda Accord struck him.

The collision impact ejected the victim from his bike into the traffic lanes, leaving him with fatal injuries. The accident report did not state if the Accord driver remained at the scene or fled after the collision. The investigation into the incident is ongoing to determine fault, and the Oakland CHP heads it. There is no additional information.

When a traffic collision occurs, the investigators look at the events leading to the crash and the conduct of the parties involved to determine on whose side the liability lies. The person with the highest fault would face criminal charges and sometimes a civil lawsuit if the victim or his or her representative desire to recover damages.

Damages obtained from civil suits cover medical bills, loss of income, loss of consortium, funeral and burial expenses, emotional and psychological damage, and loss of limbs. However, if the investigation shows that the victim contributed to the collision’s events, then the offender can bring a defense of contributory negligence.
