Officer Dale Rush Sustains Injuries After Getting Hit by a Trailer on Visalia Highway

On Monday, August 3rd, the Visalia Police Department released an accident report disclosing that one of their officers suffered injuries after a trailer struck him. Officer Dale Rush was conducting a traffic stop on Highway 198, Visalia, California, when the incident happened.

The VPD placed the time of the occurrence at about 8 a.m near the Ben Maddox off-ramp. The video obtained from the victim’s patrol car camera showed that he and a fellow officer pulled a car over for pulling on the highway.

While conducting the traffic stop, a male driver, name withheld, who traveled in the No. 1 lane failed to stop for slow-moving traffic and lost control of his car. The vehicle then struck the guardrail, causing it to go across both traffic lanes.

The front of the car struck the trailer and sent it in Officer Rush’s direction. The vehicle smacked the victim, leaving him injured. Medics took the man to a local hospital, and the police said that the medical personnel expects him to make a full recovery.

Officer Rush has worked as a lawman for 19 years, and he is currently assigned to the Visalia Police Patrol Division. The investigators did not reveal if the driver that started the incident received any citation, and there’s no additional information.

Traffic accidents occur at the least expected time; thus, road users must be careful and act cautiously. Maintaining the speed limit also goes a long way in preventing collisions and allows a motorist to stop in time to avoid crashing.
