On Thursday, August 13th, the Santa Clara Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man killed in a collision in the Saratoga area of California. David Alan Brown, a 75-year-old city resident, died from injuries sustained in the occurrence of Wednesday, August 12th.
According to Officer Ross Lee of the California Highway Patrol, the accident report placed the time of the collision at about 11:20 a.m. at the intersection of Saratoga Avenue and Highway 85. The lawman noted that the crash preceded an accident on the freeway south of the northbound off-ramp to Saratoga.
Lee said that a white Tesla collided with the rear end of a Toyota Sienna on the freeway multiple times, causing it to spin out. The first vehicle then traveled down the off-ramp, where it collided with a gray pickup truck at the intersection, and caught fire.
Two occupants of the Tesla, including Brown, and two occupants of the pickup, suffered life-threatening injuries, and medics conveyed them to the hospital. The victim passed away while receiving treatment.
The driver of the minivan, Rafaella Brunello, and another unidentified person suffered minor wounds and received treatment at the scene. The motorist complained of pains in her neck and legs and underwent an X-ray. The result is pending.
Brunello said she thought she was going to die, and expressed her gratitude to those who stopped traffic on the roadway and helped her exit the minivan. The Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office is heading the investigation into the collision, and there’s no update at this time.
