Shelly Stevens Identified as the Victim of Vehicular Homicide in Contra Costa County

A Sunday, September 6th, update to an accident report from the Contra Costa County area of California disclosed the identity of the woman killed in a traffic collision. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office named Shelly Stevens, a 35-year-old Lafayette resident, as the fatal victim.

Sheriff’s deputies and officers from the California Highway Patrol found the woman’s body early Friday morning, September 4th. They located the victim in an unincorporated area north of Buchanan Field Airport.

CHP Officer Brandon Correia said that at about 1 a.m., they responded to reports of a pedestrian getting struck by a car near Solano Way and Marsh Drive in unincorporated Concord. Jimmy Lee, the spokesman of the CCCSO, said they found the body on the road in the 5000-block area of Marsh.

Correia added that they discovered evidence of a possible homicide, but failed to provide more details. Lee also added that a sheriff’s deputy found the suspect vehicle nearby. The CHP began the investigation into the occurrence, but the CCCSO is now heading the inquiry.

They classified the incident as vehicular homicide. Anyone with relevant information on the accident should contact the Investigation Division of the sheriff’s office or dispatch on the listed lines.

Vehicular homicide is a severe offense in California, and it is frowned at by the justice system. Those found guilty of the crime are liable to imprisonment, with the number of years depending on the offender’s degree of negligence.
