Trista Poletski Killed in Eureka Motorcycle Crash

A woman was killed in a motorcycle crash that occurred in Eureka on Friday, September 18. The deceased was identified by the California Highway Patrol as Trista Poletski, 29, of Eureka.

According to the details shared by CHP, Poletski was traveling northbound on Walnut Drive when the fatal incident took place. She was riding a motorcycle at the time. As she was driving close to the Greenbriar Lane, Poletski crossed the center line and entered the southbound lane. This brought her directly into the path of the oncoming lane.

Her motorcycle, which was traveling at speeds of 40mph to 45mph, then crashed into a southbound vehicle. CHP identified the vehicle as a Dodge Nitro. The crash was reported to the police at around 12:30 p.m. It took a while for emergency personnel and paramedics to reach the scene of the accident.

In the meanwhile, an off-duty nurse attempted to perform life-saving measures on Poletski. However, these measures didn’t work and by the time the first responders came, Poletski had succumbed to her injuries. The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office pronounced her deceased at the scene.

The front of the Dodge Nitro sustained heavy damage in the collision. The driver of the SUV remained largely safe and had no notable injuries to report. No other vehicles or persons were involved in the incident.

CHP continues to investigate the incident. At this time, it is unclear exactly what caused Trista Poletski to veer into the path of the oncoming traffic. Subsequent accident reports may shed more light on the incident.
