Kaya Durazo and Ayana Guardado Identified as Fatal Victims of a Traffic Accident in Tracy

On Sunday, September 20th, the Patterson Unified School District disclosed that they lost two female students to a car crash in Tracy, California. The district identified the high school seniors as Kaya Durazo and Ayana Guardado.

The car accident report disclosed that the teenagers were among four people traveling in the vehicle that crashed on Friday night, September 18th. According to the California Highway Patrol, an officer tried to pull the car over for a moving violation, but they failed to stop.

The officer then pursued the vehicle for a short distance. Later that night, officers spotted the vehicle speeding through an intersection before crashing into a tree. The impact killed Durazo, Guardado, and the other male teenagers identified as Treyvon Breckenridge and Donald Edwards.

The CHP identified the male teens on Saturday, September 19th. Breckenridge played football at Edison High School, while Edwards was a former McNair football player. The schools described the death of the two as heartbreaking and unthinkable.

Patterson Unified stated that it would provide grief counselling virtually for students between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Monday, September 21st, to help them deal with the deaths. Durazo’s sister, Asia, described the victim as someone who loved her family, always smiling, and trying to make everyone happy.

The CHP closed down the westbound Tracy Boulevard Interstate 205 on-ramp while they cleared debris from the scene. They did not provide any additional information on the occurrence. The investigation is ongoing.
