On Thursday, October 1st, the Long Beach Police Department revealed the identity of the 30-year-old Los Angeles resident killed in a multiple vehicle collision in Long Beach, California. In updates made to the car accident report, they named Joe Delucas as the fatal victim.

The initial report disclosed that the man was the only one who died in the crash that injured six people on Tuesday, September 29th. According to the LBPD, at about 5 p.m., a Norwalk man identified as Mario Medrano, 31, drove a car on Pacific Coast Highway south of Loynes Drive.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver operated his 2015 Nissan Altima south on PCH on top speed. He swerved into oncoming traffic and struck a 1994 Nissan truck driven by a 63-year-old resident of Long Beach.

The Nissan continued southbound in the northbound lanes, striking a 2010 Toyota Prius driven by a 58-year-old Long Beach resident. The impact pushed the Toyota into the southbound lane of PCH, where it struck a 2008 Honda Pilot.

Delucas, who traveled with three others as passengers in Medrano’s car, passed away at the scene. The other occupants, aside from the driver, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at a local hospital.

Two people in the Toyota and one person in the Honda suffered injuries and received treatment in the hospital. The police said that the involved vehicles’ drivers stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Officers determined that Medrano drove while impaired and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence and murder. They are holding him on a $2 million bail bond. Anyone with additional information should contact Detective Kelsey Meyers or Crime Stoppers.
