Kristen Delgado Dies in Brawley Hit-and-Run Accident

At about 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14th, a vehicle struck Kristen Delgado, 38, as she walked on a roadway in Brawley, California. The Brawley Police Department said the driver fled the scene, making it a hit-and-run crash.

The accident report placed the occurrence in the 400 block of West Main Street. Officers described the car involved as a gray late model Dodge pickup truck with a camper shell. They believe it has front-end damage on its right side.

The BPD is actively searching for the hit-and-run driver. Anyone with relevant information that could lead to a positive arrest should contact the investigators on the listed line.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, auto-pedestrian accidents are a menace on the state’s roadways and going from bad to worse. The agency listed walking to schools, offices, shopping malls, and as a form of exercise or for fun as contributing factors.

Between 2009 and 2018, California has recorded more pedestrian deaths and injuries than other parts of the United States. OTS sees the problem as a two-way street between pedestrians and drivers and admonishes both sides to work together to promote safe road behaviors.

Pedestrians should avoid dangerous road behaviors like jaywalking, stick to designated crosswalks and sidewalks, wear reflective materials, and look carefully before crossing intersections. On their part, drivers must yield the way to pedestrians, stop before the crosswalk, and drive within the recommended speed limit, especially in residential, school, and business areas.
