60-Year-Old Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Van Nuys

Just before 8pm on Saturday, a 60-year-old man was found on the street in the 8000 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard in Van Nuys, Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department said. The victim later died at a hospital, according to the coroner’s office.

“He was walking across mid-block when he was struck in the No. 3 lane by a white pickup truck”, Los Angeles police Lt. W. Morey said. “The man was not in a crosswalk when he was hit.”

The driver was not at fault and did not flee, turning herself in at a nearby police station right after the accident, said Officer K. Montoya of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

The investigation showed the pedestrian was talking on his telephone and tried to cross the street outside of a crosswalk, which meant the crash was not the truck driver’s fault, Montoya said.
