An eleven-year-old middle school pupil killed last week Friday after being struck by a flatbed truck near the intersection of El Camino Real and California Avenue, in Palo Alto, California, has been identified.
The young boy’s identity was disclosed on Wednesday, March 11, by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s office as Paul Lafarge, a student of Greene Middle School, Palo Alto, CA.
The fatal incident took place along the interchange on El Camino. Officers investigating the scene of the accident determined that the 11-year-old was riding a bicycle, traveling east on California Avenue, towards El Camino Real, keeping to the sidewalk all the while.
Just as he approached the interchange, a flatbed truck, moving in the same direction, attempted a right turn to join the southbound traffic on El Camino. The motorist collided with the child, knocking him off the road.
The impact of the crash caused the middle schooler’s death instantly, as confirmed by the County’s police department.
Following the fatal incident, the parents of the victim have set out on a campaign to create awareness on the importance of abiding by traffic safety rules.
Their quest has been backed by friends and other locals who have contributed with awareness posters as well as other traffic signposts to help prevent future accidents. An online fundraising page was also created to support the cause, with a goal of $10000.
The tragic incident remains under investigation by the County Coroner’s Office.
