The 27-year-old man who died in the accident on the link road between Alameda County and Contra Costa County, California, has been identified by the police. Brian Shuck, of Brentwood, was identified in the early hours of Wednesday, March 11th.
The accident that claimed the deceased’s life involved three vehicles. It occurred on Tuesday, March 10th, on the vital bypass of Vasco Road at about 2:30 p.m. precisely south of Camino Diablo Road.
The preliminary report by the authorities showed that Shuck was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck, and was traveling north on Vasco Road when he drifted over the double yellow lines that divide the roadway.
The move took the Chevrolet into the lanes heading south, where it collided with a box truck head-on. The collision caused Shuck’s car to spin, and a GMC SUV, driving behind the box truck smashed into it.
The young man sustained severe injuries, and first responders at the scene pronounced him dead. The drivers of the box truck and the GMC sustained minor injuries, but are alive and well.
The crash made the California Highway Patrol close down the northbound and southbound lanes for four hours during preliminary investigation. Motorists were redirected to Interstate 680 while the investigation lasted.
The roads were reopened by 7 p.m., and traffic flowed freely. The authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash and have once again reiterated how dangerous it is to cross the double yellow lines.
The latter is generally a traffic offense that is settled with a fine when there’s no accident. But when a crash occurs and a person dies or gets injured, then criminal and civil lawsuits will arise.
