A military man killed on the grounds of the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California, during a routine training has been identified as Pfc. Justin Kirby Candido.
Candido died in a fatal Humvee accident, while partaking in a large-scale exercise conducted within a military training facility in the early hours of Monday, March 9.
A statement by the Fort Irwin National Training Center revealed that the military personnel, along with an unidentified soldier, were practicing some realistic combat maneuver techniques in an M1113 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, commonly termed Humvee when the deadly accident happened.
While Candido was killed in the vehicle accident, the second army persona suffered injuries and was transported to University Medical Center, Southern Nevada by a military helicopter.
The injured man was discharged from the health facility after being treated and declared medically fit by hospital personnel.
The deceased soldier was a 21-year-old native of New Bedford, Massachusetts, assigned to the Regimental Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Fort Irwin.
Fort Irwin’s public affair office disclosed that about 7,500 U.S soldiers took part in the military training exercise in addition to the two accident victims.
According to Jason Miller, an official of the city’s public affairs office, the training was one of ten training rotations conducted on the NTC grounds annually by the United States military to equip Brigade Combat Teams with the necessary skills to fight and win in battle.
