Albert Arroyo and Margarita Arellano Identified as Victims of Lucerne Valley Head-On Collision

The two people who lost their lives a week ago in a head-on collision in the Lucerne Valley area of California have been identified. Updated reports of the car accident released early Friday, July 10th, revealed the fatal victims’ names as Albert Arroyo, 37, of Nuevo, and Margarita Arellano, 67, of Lucerne Valley.

The press release by the California Highway Patrol disclosed that the collision happened around 6:45 a.m. on Friday, July 3rd. It took place on Highway 18 west of Custer Avenue. The investigators said that Arroyo was northbound in a Nissan Altima when he went across the centerline for unknown reasons.

The act placed him directly in front of an oncoming Mazda CX-5 operated by a 65-year-old man from Lucerne Valley. The CHP said that both drivers while trying to avoid each other, drifted to the right shoulder of the roadway but ended up colliding. Arroyo and Arellano, a passenger in the Mazda, sustained fatal wounds that claimed their lives at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle suffered extensive and severe wounds, and medics rushed him to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment. Three passengers in the Nissan sustained moderate injuries and received treatment at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.

The CHP does not believe that drugs or (and) alcohol played a role in the collision, but the investigation is ongoing. Traffic accidents are preventable if drivers maintain their lane of travel and obey traffic rules and regulations.
