Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in California and the United States. Different factors contribute to collisions, and they can either be the negligence of the driver or external factors on the roadway.

Acts of negligence cover driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, wrong-way driving, tailgating, speed, distracted driving caused by texting, eating or calling, and running red lights or stop signs. External factors cover animals on the roadway, debris, adverse weather or road conditions, mechanical defect, or an underlying medical condition.

Negligent drivers are liable to face criminal prosecution if an accident results in death or severe bodily harm. They can also face a civil lawsuit if the victim desires to recover damages for the loss suffered.
