The man who was killed in a fiery crash last week after his vehicle crashed into a construction site and injured two workers in the Huntington Beach area of California has been identified. The Supervising Deputy Orange County Coroner, on Saturday, May 2, named the fatal victim as Spencer Sandridge, 27, of Costa Mesa, as affirmed by the accident reports.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly occurrence took place at about 10:30 pm on Thursday, April 20, on the San Diego (405) Freeway.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the wreck was orchestrated by a 2012 Dodge Dart, driven by the fatal victim, traveling through the south traffic lanes on the freeway.
For unknown reasons, the vehicle drove through a restricted part of the high-occupancy vehicle lane, located south of Newland Street.
Upon venturing into the closed up portion, the Dodge struck two Caltrans construction workers, who were reportedly still setting up the road closure at the time.
The accident reports ascertained that one of the workers was standing beside a trailer-truck, while the other was seated inside the big rig when the crash happened. The Dodge eventually came to rest after smashing into a center divider.
Sandridge was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two Caltrans workers sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized.
Following the crash, the emergency response team shut down all southbound lanes on 405 Freeway for hours as investigations and clearing out took place.
Investigations into the fatal occurrence are still in the works.
