Authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying a driver who fatally struck a pedestrian Friday night in Santa Fe.
Emergency responders at about 10 p.m. Friday found Kevin M. Poirier, 45, of San Diego, along a New Mexico Highway, suffering from serious injuries, authorities said. A New Mexico State Police press release said Poirier was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators believe Poirier was walking south on New Mexico 14 near the Santa Fe Detention Center on Friday night when he was struck by a pickup truck that also was traveling south on the highway. The driver of the truck, described in the press release as a 2015 Ford, then fled the scene.
Authorities have released few details about the suspect driver and the truck, but they did state in the release that the vehicle like has front-end damage and is missing a mirror. It’s unclear whether speed or intoxication are believed to have contributed to the incident.
The crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police and the agency’s crash reconstruction unit, according to a press release.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or who might have information about the crash is asked to call the stage agency at 505-841-9526.
