Police: Michelle Andrade Was Intoxicated At Time Of Crash That Injured 3 In Chandler

Three children suffered serious injuries Sunday morning when a suspected impaired driver crashed a van near Chandler, causing it to flip, according to authorities.

All three of the children, none of who were publicly identified by authorities, were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries that aren’t believed to be life-threatening, police said. The driver, 21-year-old Michelle Andrade, was arrested on multiple charges.

Police said Andrade was driving at about 3 a.m. Sunday when she lost control of her vehicle near Val Vista Drive and Hunt Highway. She attempted to return to the roadway but overcorrected, causing the van to hit a curb and rollover.

No other vehicles were involved.

Two of the five kids in the vehicle at the time of the wreck were ejected, authorities reported. Those two, along with a third child, were injured in the wreck and were taken to a local hospital, Chandler police said.

Another adult was in the vehicle with Andrade, according to authorities. Police did not say whether the other juveniles or the second adult suffered any injuries as a result of the crash.

Investigators determined Andrade was impaired. She was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, aggravated assault and endangerment.
