A man was killed on Wednesday evening in a hit-and-run crash while riding his bicycle on Marshall Road in the Patterson area of Stanislaus County, California. A bicycle accident attorney may be required to get involved in the case if the motorist, who fled the crash site after it occurred on Wednesday, April 1, is eventually apprehended.
The car-bicycle wreck took place at precisely 7 pm and involved a bicycle rider and an unidentified motorist operating a large vehicle.
Detectives who responded to the fatal crash gathered that the cyclist was riding his bicycle along Marshall road, east of Tulip Avenue prior to the tragedy.
A jeep-sized car traveling in the direction of the bicycle rider then struck him from behind. The accident victim was knocked off his bike onto the roadway, causing him fatal injuries.
The cyclist, who has since been identified as Franki Sanchez, 51, was pronounced dead at the site of the incident.
Police reports ascertained that the operator of the vehicle, which killed Sanchez, did not stop to render assistance to the cyclist but fled the scene immediately.
Officers of the California Highway Patrol described the hit-and-run driver’s vehicle as a possible 2000-2006 GMC pickup or SUV. The color was not specified.
Patrol officers are on the lookout for a vehicle that fits the description, with police checkpoints stationed at various road intervals.
If apprehended, the suspect could be charged with several counts of felony and misdemeanor, including felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, and evading police.
A bicycle accident attorney may also be made available to ensure the fatal victim’s family is duly compensated for the loss.
