The city of Wildomar, California, recorded a drastic fatality on Tuesday, March 10, following a car crash that claimed the life of a local on 15 Freeway. The accident involved an SUV which veered off the Freeway and rolled down an embankment.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly accident took place around 11:15 am on a rainy morning. The victim of the crash was driving south in a 2017 Toyota Highlander along 15 Freeway, north of Bundy Canyon Road.
The SUV operator maintained a speed limit of 70 mph while driving through the right traffic lane, with the rain pouring heavily. Just as the vehicle approached north of Bundy Canyon Road, it swerved off the Highway and rolled over a dirt embankment.
The overturning vehicle came to a halt along the east lanes of Bundy Canyon Road. The motorist did not survive the car wreck as emergency responders pronounced him dead on the scene at about 11:21 am.
Investigators dispatched to the crash site disclosed that the victim drove with his seat belt fastened before the accident occurred. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office has since identified the demised driver as Michael Carter, a 63-year-old resident of Wildomar.
Following the incident, the California Highway Patrol admonished motorists to stay within the rules of the road and reduce their driving speed when faced with harsh weather conditions.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the state’s highway patrol.
