Coroner Identifies Carla Becerra as the Woman Killed in Imperial Highway Accident

Carla Becerra

The authorities on Thursday, February 20th, revealed the identity of the woman who got killed in the hit-and-run accident on Imperial Highway. She is 31-year-old Carla Becerra, of Lakewood, California.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said in its report that Becerra died from injuries sustained from the crash. The cause of death was ruled an accident, and there is no toxicology report.

The deceased was involved in a hit-and-run accident earlier this month, precisely on February 1st. She was riding her motorcycle on the trail near Imperial Highway and Fire Stone Avenue along the San Gabriel River.

Becerra suddenly got hit by a car for reason authorities are yet to uncover. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found the deceased close to her bike unconscious, with the vehicle and the driver that hit her nowhere in sight.

Paramedics took the deceased to the Coast Plaza Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries. The police later interviewed a person of interest who turned into a suspect.

The driver got charged with felony vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. The courts in California frown at both offenses, which are criminal under the California Vehicle Code.

Under CVC 20001, a hit-and-run offense is either prosecuted as a misdemeanor or a felony depending on the degree of injury a person suffers or if there is a death. In either case, the offender gets a fine, and a short time in county jail.

When there’s a death, and the offender faces a charge of vehicular manslaughter, the person faces not less than five years in jail. The latter will be a consecutive sentence with whatever the offender gets for the manslaughter charge.
