A vehicle versus pedestrian accident in Carson, California, claimed the life of a local after she was knocked down by a car while crossing the roadway on Avalon Boulevard. The tragic occurrence took place on the evening of Monday, March 16.
It was reported that the pedestrian met her end while walking across the street unlawfully outside the pedestrian designated crosswalk at about 7:30 pm. The 86-year-old female was struck mid-road by an oncoming vehicle, at the interchange of Avalon Boulevard and 184th Street, near Dignity Health Sports Park.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a distress call came in on Monday night, reporting a traffic collision in the area of Avalon Boulevard and 184th Street.
Deputies were dispatched to the site of the incident shortly after it occurred and discovered the elderly woman lying unconscious. Medics declared the Carson local dead at the scene.
The identity of the deceased was later revealed by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as Lourdes Giron, an 86-year old Carson resident.
The motorist involved, whose identity was withheld, pulled over, and waited at the crash site until the police arrived. He cooperated with officers during the on-site investigations.
Investigators determined that the vehicle operator was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, and he was not arrested. No further information was released concerning the traffic collision.
Investigations are still ongoing to establish what led to the fatal crash.
