The identity of the cyclist who died last weekend after his motorcycle crashed into a moving vehicle in Lake Tulloch, California, has been released. Authorities on Monday, April 27, disclosed the deceased’s identity as Charles Brechtel, a 62-year-old resident of Copperopolis. The victim’s family may need to involve a motorcycle accident attorney.
The crash was reported at about 5:50 pm on Saturday, April 25, in the area of O’Byrnes Ferry Road, near Duchess Drive. Investigators gathered that the victim was the rider and sole occupant of a 1987 Harley Davidson motorcycle, which was traveling through the northbound lanes on the roadway.
At the same time, a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox was heading south on O’Byrnes Ferry Road, with 29-year-old Briana Mason, a female resident of Davis as its driver. For unknown reasons, Brechtel rode his motorcycle into the southbound lanes and onto the path of Mason’s Chevrolet, causing the two vehicles to collide.
As a result of the collision, the cyclist was thrown off his bike, sustaining fatal injuries in the process. When paramedics arrived, they declared Charles Brechtel dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, Mason and her sole passenger, identified as Evan Gorder, a 29-year-old resident of Davis, emerged from the accident unscathed. They were both restrained by a seatbelt when the crash happened.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol to determine what caused the cyclist to veer into the wrong lane.
Although the deceased appears to hold the greater liability in the crash, an independent probe conducted by a motorcycle accident attorney may unveil new evidence which could prove otherwise.
