A woman would need a drunk driving attorney’s service following her arrest for driving under the influence and sideswiping a patrol car on Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago, California. Shante T. Newson, 31, on Sunday, August 2nd, allegedly drove through a closed lane on the highway.
The crash report showed that a state trooper parked a patrol vehicle with lights activated while investigating an earlier accident. The Illinois State Police said that at about 2:10 a.m., the woman struck the lawman’s car on the northbound lanes near 95th Street.
The police determined that Newson was intoxicated, and charged her with DUI, resisting arrest, and violating Scott’s Law. The latter punishes drivers who fail to move over and slow down for on-duty state troopers and vehicles. The crash damaged the side mirror of the patrol car, and it also had scrapes and dents.
The ISP said that Newson posted bail on Sunday, and according to jail records, she will appear in court on Monday, August 10th. There is no additional information.
In Illinois, operating a vehicle while intoxicated is a severe offense and carries some of the harshest penalties in the United States. The state has a zero-tolerance policy for minors. The severity of the punishment an offender would face depends on whether he or she is a first time or serial offender. The sentence awarded by the court covers jail, fine, and suspension of driving license amid others.
