A man has been charged in relation to a house fire that swept through a building in Thousand Oaks in California, endangering the life of a person over the age of 65. Deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday evening arrested the suspect, Christopher Seifert, on charges of arson and elder abuse, as confirmed in the accident reports.
The bizarre incident took place in a Thousand Oaks home located on the 700 block of Benson. Ventura County Fire Department personnel responded to the site of the fire at about 5: 10 pm.
Upon their arrival, they discovered that the fire had already been put out by residents. Officers said the outbreak was contained to a bedroom.
Authorities described the blaze as suspicious, which prompted the involvement of arson investigators from the Sheriff’s Office as well as the fire department. The investigations determined that the fire was started intentionally, which proved the outbreak as a case of arson.
Further investigations led to the apprehension of Christopher Seifert, a resident of the burned building. Seifert was tagged a suspect in the arson case and taken into custody by the Ventura County authorities.
Deputies said an elderly person, who also resides in the 700 block, was inside the burning building at the time of the fire, the accident reports show.
The suspect, who now faces charges of arson and elder abuse in connection to the crash, is being held at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $60,000 bail. A court appearance was slated for 1:30 pm on Tuesday, April 21, as per the jail records.
