At approximately 6 p.m. on Monday, July 13th, a man lost his life in a traffic accident in Clovis, California. The accident report revealed that 74-year-old Chris Green was riding his motorcycle before the occurrence that ended his life.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at the intersection of Herndon Avenue and Thompson Avenue. Green rode a 2011 Kawasaki Z1000 motorcycle eastbound on Herndon behind a 2015 Toyota Sienna driven by an unnamed driver.
The two were approaching Thompson when they collided for reasons that the investigators have not uncovered. The collision sent Green and the Toyota driver into the westbound lanes simultaneously, and the impact ejected the motorcyclist from the bike. When Clovis Fire Department officials arrived at the scene, they found the man lying on the roadway.
The victim was unresponsive, and the paramedics pronounced him dead. The CHP did not mention if the driver of the Toyota suffered injuries from the wreck or remained at the scene. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Auto-motorcycle accidents are not uncommon in California, with over 800 000 registered motorcycle riders. Motorcyclists are more prone to sustain severe or fatal wounds than the operator of a vehicle due to the open design of the bike.
Riders can mitigate the two by wearing a US-DOT complaint helmet with face and eye covering and protective apparel. Additionally, motorcyclists should avoid speeding and give adequate distance between themselves and other road users.
