In new reports of a car accident that happened in South Corona, California, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office confirmed the death of a man in a solo vehicle crash. The accident, which claimed one life, and left another injured, occurred just before dawn on Saturday, May 9.
The Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said they recorded the fatality near Mayhew and Temescal Canyon roads in the unincorporated Glen Ivy area. Officers responded to the crash shortly after 4:30 a.m. on reports of a solo-vehicle rollover crash that left one victim unresponsive.
Accounts obtained from witnesses revealed that the vehicle involved was traveling through the north traffic lanes on Interstate 15 Freeway. Upon approaching the Indian Truck Trail exit, the car drove off the roadway and flipped over before coming to rest near Mayhew and Temescal Canyon Roads.
One person remained trapped in the vehicle until fire department personnel extricated the victim from the wreckage. The rescued victim suffered major injuries, and medics facilitated the survivor’s transportation to an area hospital for treatment. The California Highway Patrol disclosed in the reports that the person sustained a head laceration and a broken right arm.
The other occupant of the vehicle, identified as Damian Gomez, 23, of Corona, did not survive the wreck. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene, according to the county coroner’s office. Authorities have not released additional details about the crash that claimed the young man’s life at this time.
