Coroner Reveals the Name of Northridge Killed Pedestrian as Dominic Muzsnai

On Friday, July 31st, the Los Angeles County Coroner identified the pedestrian killed by a train in the Northridge area of Los Angeles, California. In the updated accident report, the coroner named Dominic Muzsnai, 64, as the fatal victim.

The report released by the Los Angeles Police Department stated that a Metrolink train struck the man around 6:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 30th. The Ventura County Line 102 train was heading toward downtown Los Angeles when the collision happened in the 8600-block of Lindley Avenue.

Muzsnai sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The LAPD did not state what the victim was doing at the tracks at the time of the accident, and the investigation is ongoing.

Train-pedestrian collision is not uncommon, and while it is not a daily occurrence, it results in fatal injuries when it occurs. Ordinarily, train tracks are considered private property, and pedestrians found at undesignated crossings are trespassers and liable to get fined.

Collisions of this nature are preventable, and pedestrians can do so by staying away from train tracks, and if they must cross one, do so at a designated crossing with a functional warning or stop signs. Assume that a train is always coming, and pass with the awareness that a locomotive cannot stop quickly.

The average freight train travels at 55 miles per hour and takes a mile or more to stop. Look both ways before crossing the track, don’t try to beat a train across the road, and ensure there’s enough room before crossing.
