Courtney Louisville and Matilde Saavedra Identified as Fatal Victims of Interstate 5 Accident

15-year-old Courtney Louisville and 56-year-old Matilde Saavedra were identified as the two people killed in a multiple vehicle collision on Interstate 5 near Bakersfield, California. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office made the identification public in the updated car accident reports released on Tuesday, August 18th.

The teenager was from Atlanta, Georgia, while the woman resided in Antioch. According to the California Highway Patrol, Louisville and Saavedra traveled in a 2015 Honda SUV with three others on Sunday, August 16th.

The trio consists of 14-year-old and 16-year-old teenagers from Atlanta and a 62-year-old woman from Antioch. The latter suffered moderate wounds, while the teens sustained significant injuries. Medics took them to a hospital, and there’s no update on their condition at this time.

The CHP said that the accident happened around 3 p.m. north of State Route 166. The driver of a Ford F-150 truck was southbound on I-5. The motorist swerved to avoid debris on the fast lane, lost control of the vehicle, and entered into the roadway’s northbound lanes.

The truck collided with the Honda and semi-truck and the impact caused the SUV to roll over and go over the right side of the road, into an orchard. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and received treatment in a hospital.

Sgt. Basil Zuniga said that alcohol or drugs are not factors in the accident. The CHP closed the affected roadway for several hours and reopened it at about 6:30 p.m. The sergeant advised drivers to be aware of the speeds on the road, maintain safe braking distance, and check tire pressure during hot weather.
