Driver Killed in Stanislaus County Collision Identified as Eric Ollis

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office, California, identified a 62-year-old Gilroy man, Eric Lynn Ollis, as the fatal victim of a two-vehicle collision in the county. The coroner made the reveal in the updated car accident report released on Monday, August 10th.

The earlier crash report disclosed that the incident took place on Saturday, August 8th. It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Crows Landing Road, just north of Ehrlich Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Ollis operated a 1998 GMC pickup hauling a one-axle trail southbound on Crows.

For unknown reasons, the victim swerved into the opposite northbound lane, directly in front of a 2015 Volvo semi-truck towing a refrigerated trailer containing 30 000 pounds of lettuce. The two vehicles collided, and the impact left Ollis partially ejected from his car.

The semi-truck drifted off the side of the road and stopped in a cornfield. The victim sustained fatal wounds, and medics pronounced him dead at the scene. The driver of the Volvo, identified as Baljit Singh Mann, a 39-year-old Modesto resident, went unscathed.

The investigators said that it is unclear if drugs or (and) alcohol usage played a role in the incident. The crash remains under investigation, and the CHP would release any additional information at a later time.

When a driver veers off his travel lane, it could be a direct result of impairment by an intoxicating substance or an underlying medical condition. The latter covers epileptic attack, heart attack, or diabetes mellitus, among others. Drivers with any of the preceding should consider alternative means of transportation for their safety and other road users.
