The identity of the alleged DUI driver responsible for the death of one victim, and causing severe injuries to six others in a tragic traffic accident last week Saturday in Solana Beach, California, has been disclosed. The California Highway Patrol confirmed in a statement on Wednesday, March 18, that the reckless motorist was identified as Zulma Johana Barrios, 29.
Authorities alleged that the 29-year-old was driving under the influence of Marijuana at the time of the fatal collision, which took place on Saturday, March 14, along 5 Freeway.
According to the state’s highway patrol, the fatal victim, identified as 57-year-old Felicitas Navarro, a Los Angeles resident, was the driver of a black Toyota Scion, which was pulled over on the emergency lane after accidentally striking the median.
Another motorist, driving a white Toyota Corolla pulled over in an attempt to help the three female occupants of the Scion. Just then, Zulma, travelling at a high rate of speed in Chevrolet Tahoe, crashed into the parked Scion.
The impact caused Navarro’s vehicle to overturn on the center divider and went ablaze. The operator of the Scion died from the accident, while the two passengers and the Corolla’s driver suffered major injuries.
The DUI motorist, along with the two passengers in her vehicle were also injured in the crash and were taken to a health facility for treatment, alongside the other wounded victims.
Barrios has since been put in police custody, with charges of DUI marijuana and vehicular manslaughter filed against her.
